• Turkey is the biggest producer of grapes in the Middle East.
• Turkey is the biggest producer of seedless grapes in the world.
• She also has the fourth largest area of land devoted to vineyards in the world with 560 000ha.
• She is the fifth biggest grape-growing country in the world. (3 700 000 tons/ year)
• Turkey is the leading producer of dried grapes in the world. (360 000 tons/year )
• Turkey is the first exporter for the dried grapes in the world.
• In Turkey there are almost 1100 types of grapes. 34 of them are used to produce wine and only 22 types are local.
• Vineyards occupy 2.5% of the agricultural land in Turkey.
• The share of grape in whole agricultural production is 3.5 % and the share of grape in total production of fruit is 31
%. Of the grapes grown in Turkey ;
• 40 % is consumed at the table. 35 % is processed as dry grapes , 23 % is used as pekmez (sort of grape jam) , pestil ( grape paste) , only2-3 % used for producing wine.
