| SOME OF THE LOCAL GRAPE TYPES IN CAPPADOCIA DIMRIT: (Red) This is one of the early grapes of Cappadocia. It constitutes 60 % of the grapes produced in the region. Only 5 % of it is evaluated as wine grape. In varietal (single grape) wines produced with this grape are of low quality. It is sometimes used in the coupage (blend) with the other grapes. The sugar rate is high (17-26 %) CAVUS: (White) Its perfume is very pleasant. It constitutes 3 % of the grapes grown in the region. It is used for eating and in grape juice. This is another early type. PARMAK UZUMU: (Finger grape) (white) So called because of its shape which is long almost cylindrical. A grape with high fertility. It is generally consumed at the table or at the jam. It constitutes almost 15 % of the grapes grown in the region. EMIR: (white) (you can find other information about this grape in the chapter ‘wine grape types') This grape is not too sweet. It is harvested in September. It is the best of Cappadocia and one of the best in Turkey for making white wines. It constitutes nearly 10-12 % of the grapes produced in the region. Other local grape types in Cappadocia are Ketengomlek , Morhevenk, Beyazhevenk, razaki as white; Yediveren (used also in red wine around Hacbektas region), Kirsehir Karasi (used also in red wine) as red varieties. The local white grape of NARINCE of Tokat Region at the North is also grown in Cappadocia and it continues to give great results. The local red wine grape of PAPAZKARASI of Thrace region at the North-west of Turkey is also grown in vineyards in Yesilyurt village near Kizilirmak (Red River) BOGAZKERE and OKUZGOZU are other red wine grape types local of Eastern Turkey are produced in Cappadocia. KALECIK KARASI which is the legendary wine grape of Kalecik region in Ankara gives surprising results in Cappadocia. ADAKARASI is another wine grape type of the region of Marmara which is now grown on the banks of Red River in Cappadocia. INTERNATIONAL GRAPES IN CAPPADOCIA RED GRAPES are Alicante-Bouschet , Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot WHÝTE GRAPES are Chardonnay , Sauvignon Blanc. |
